5 Morning Routine that Changed my Life
Ps-I didn't wake up at 5 AM.
What you do after waking up is more important than when you wake up.
We all have 24 hrs in a day, yet some people are greatly successful and others aren't. Although there are multiple factors responsible for it. one of the most important factors is having a routine. Everyone who has achieved something significant in life swears by having a system and following a routine.
I was a person who believed routines are boring. They force you to live as an automaton. I hated the idea of having a routine, it’s like caging somebody. It always felt like I would have to compromise my freedom in order to follow a routine.
But the good news is — routines don't take away your freedom instead provide you with the same. when you work on the XYZ task every day at the same time you’re basically lowering the time taken to accomplish a task. moreover, once it becomes a habit you don't have to think much about it. you can utilize that time for doing other cognitively demanding tasks.
Having a morning routine is important because it sets the tone for your entire day. I always advocate that it’s always the first step that’s the hardest. once you gather the courage and take that first step, one thing will lead to another, before you even know about it.
The 5-morning routines that I follow and you can too, to see a massive change in your life-
1. Catching up with my circadian rhythm-
My sleep schedule was always messed up for as long as I can remember, I lived in a hostel for 5 long years far from home. I never had a sleep schedule.
It was in the year 2020 when I had a moment of epiphany that It’s not cool to sleep at odd times. sleeping early was considered old-fashioned in my dictionary back then.
But I can’t emphasize enough that getting good sleep is the key to good health. I wake up around 6 30–7 am. and sleep around 11–11 30. sticking to the same time helps the body to align well with the circadian rhythm.
2. Chanting and Meditation
I start my day with 10 mins of chanting and 10–15 mins of meditation. Once you start seeing the results trust me you’ll always want to be in that state of calm and centredness forever. silence has answers to all your questions.
It changed my life. Not only do I do it every day, but I also find time to practice short meditation sessions even while I am out traveling. Because in this chaotic world that’s the time I find my calm.
3. Reading —
You all know how much I enjoy reading.
I am a big fan of science theories, Darwinism, Einstein’s relativity, and space have fascinated me since my childhood. I wish I could opt for astronomy in college.
During my childhood, I remember apart from watching cartoons I would spend hours watching Nat geo and discovery. my reading mainly included science magazines and my textbooks. I never stepped out of that sphere.
In these 2 years of my reading journey, I read books on spirituality, finance, self-help books, and a lot more. I am currently reading Deep Work by Cal Newport.
Books not only improved my vocab but also helped me broaden my horizon.
4. Physical activity
I’m neither the first person nor the last one to tell you the benefits of physical activity. initially, I started with yoga and basic exercises clubbed with skipping and sometimes going out to play badminton.
These days I do yoga in the morning and walk( 6k-8k preferably) in the evening. of course, exercise when paired with the right kind of diet will help you achieve your ultimate health.
If you don't have time to do any of this consider doing 10–15 burpees. Burpees target the entire body, it increases your body circulation and helps you burn fat 10x faster than any other exercise.
5. Replacing caffeine with water
I replaced caffeine with a glass of lukewarm water infused with honey and lemon. The idea is to aid the body to flush out all the toxins accumulated from the night’s long metabolic processes.
Tea/coffee though provides you with instant energy but having it empty stomach can cause serious acidity issues and even peptic ulcers in the long run.
Conclusion
You’ll never regret having a set routine, It will help you be more productive and achieve whatever goal you have set for yourself. These habits immensely benefitted me in my personal as well as professional life.
