No, I didn’t starve myself.

wait, I also didn't spend on an expensive gym membership.

didn’t spend even a single penny on protein powders, supplements, etc.

Then how the hell did I manage to lose almost 12kg? I was 70 in the first picture and 58 in the second.

A short Backstory

It was in the year 2019. My weight went up to almost 70 kg. I was tired and sluggish all day long. like I had no energy left. Even my hands and ankle area showed a sign of swelling. till then I never thought in my wildest dreams that something can go wrong.

It was in the month of October when I thought of getting myself tested just normal blood tests, and I was reported with hypothyroidism which means my thyroid gland was underactive and my body was working harder to produce thyroid hormones. I was 26 and lifelong medicines were a no-no. I surely knew there has to be a way out medicines are not the only answer.

And I didn't. I recovered myself completely within a year time span by doing yoga ( Sarvangasana & Ujjayi).

My attitude of taking my health for granted was shattered. My experience says no matter how young you’re. don't treat your body like shit. we take our health casually and wait for a blunder to happen to bring a change.

after my recovery, I never looked back. I took even better care of my health. set a proper meal time and became more physically active.

4 core things that aided my weight loss and helped me regain my health

Intermittent fasting —

It’s an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. so you basically have an eating window and a fasting window. if you’re a beginner you can start with 14:10, where you eat in a 10hr window and fast for like 14 hrs. in these 14hrs you sleep for 12hrs so you have to control your urge and delay eating by only2 hrs which is achievable.

I personally follow 16:8 every day. You can decide for yourself as per your schedule. This is not one model that fits all.

I would recommend starting slowly. we anyway do 12 hr fast daily between dinner and our meal the next day. so waiting for the next couple of hours is not that hard. once you mentally prepare yourself it becomes easy.

Exercise —

I love going on long walks in the evening. but when I’m busy I make it a point to do at least some sort of exercise or yoga. sometimes you can find me dancing crazily to my favorite songs, especially bhangra. The idea is to get your heart pumping.

Practicing moderation —

Trust me it’s an art. I do not deprive myself of anything. from samosa to chocolates I eat everything but in moderation. The good news is I don't crave that kind of stuff either, but when I do I eat.

Included protein-packed smoothies in my diet which keeps me full for a longer period. your diet makes up to 90% of your health. exercising is just 5- 10 % of it. one should really focus on eating right.

Keeping my body hydrated —

The best thing I did was to ditch tea/coffee and instead have warm water with either lemon or ACV right after waking up. being a little mindful goes a long way. I take 8–10 glasses of water daily. but again there is no such rule. water intake really depends on your lifestyle and your environmental conditions.

Conclusion

The best investment you can do is to invest in yourself, your health, body, and mind. invest in knowledge and don't take your health for granted. even if you’re doing okay now you can't predict the future. it’s better to take small steps in the direction of your goals. Having a little self-control and discipline goes a long way.
