When I first started writing online some 6 months ago, I thought writing was a simple linear process. Most of us are doing and repeating this dreadful mistake every day.

If I ask you this simple question do you write and edit at the same time?

what would be your answer? if the answer is yes then stick around and read till the end. if not you can stop reading here.

Here’s what I discovered In my writing journey

*writing and *editing are two different processes. Here’s the difference-

✍️Writing is all about addition, while writing you don't worry about what goes in and what doesn't. All you care about is writing. Throwing in all your ideas. going with a flow. without a hint of judgment just keep writing. Use bullet points to capture ideas- capture every idea, and thoughts wherever you go.

✍️Whereas Editing is all about subtraction. you must cut the fluff and edit ruthlessly. slowly and carefully, pruning every word.

✍️ Reading aloud while you edit, helps to remove the words that otherwise go unnoticed.

✍️Editing and writing on a different screen- if you write on your desktop, try editing on a different device your phone, or tab, to see things from a new perspective. 90% of the users read on their phones while commuting or in between short breaks. When you edit on a different device you’ll then be able to optimize your article as per your reader's interest.

Pro tip: Give at least 8 -10 hrs gap between writing and editing.

So, ask yourself- am I writing or am I editing?

And if you’re doing both, split them into different times.
